We tell stories.
PBWS is a small design studio with a simple tenet : the expression of our personal stories is important and worth pursuing with deliberation, rigor, and respect.
We work across scales, where architecture, interiors, and curated elements exist in quiet dialogue. Every project is highly personal, as it is with each of our collaborators.
Our work is rooted in crafting spaces that feel deeply personal, rooted in place, and nurtures a sense of belonging through understanding the daily rituals and the lives lived within. By pursuing only a small number of projects annually, we cultivate close collaborations with clients who value a holistic and deeply considered approach to living.
Chris Phillips is Founder and Principal of PBWS.
In addition to practice, Chris contributes to architectural education through lectures, workshops, and invited reviews. Most recently he has been a guest critic at NYIT and IIT.
Chris received a Master in Architecture with Commendation from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, cum laude, from Wake Forest University. Prior to founding PBWS, he worked with Tod Williams and Billie Tsien in New York and Kengo Kuma in Tokyo.
He is a Registered Architect in New York, North Carolina, and Texas.
